7. Science has done more harm than good. Do you agree?
Nowadays, people had relied on science more than we could imagine. Students are doing homework using computers, news were broadcast on televisions, and people have a phone everywhere they go. Despite the good that it gave us, it can also be bad.
With science, which invented technology such as handphones, people would carry their phones everywhere they go and this carries on for a long time, handphone, which contains radiation which harms humans, could be transfer to one if one gets in touch with it too long.
With science, people could get more impatient since technology is fast and after a while, people would expect more from it and if it suddenly slows down a little, one gets impatient easily.
Terrorist also uses science such as bombs to harm people and had said to have even invented something which could destroy the world.
Science also contributes to genetic engineering. People inserting DNAs into others or manipulate and clones others, it's like breaking a law of life. Genetic engineering could be harmful to people.
6. Would the world have been a safer and cleaner place without Science?
Science has brought advantages and disadvantages to the world. Science has given humans a third world whereby humans could learn much more things through science. Science has helped us in many ways imaginable and non-imaginable. It makes our lives easier and much more convinient. With science, it aids in growing crops and would would boost everybody's standard of living.
While Science has done us good, it can also harm us. With Science, cars and factories were made and all these contributes to the harm done to our environment. It poullutes the air, the water and the forests. It also results in global warming, which will affect every living thing on earth. With science, guns and machines were made for self-protection and yet many people like the terroritst, used such weapons for threatening and it could be fatal.
5. Advancement in medical knowledge-boon or bane?
Advancement in medical knowledge can be both a boon and a bane for people. Firstly the boon, with advancement medical knowledge, people could discover cures for deadly diseases in the past and could actually have it immune to oneself. With it, people coould also cure illness which are hard to manage. With advance medicine, people could be stronger and know about how a particular illness comes about and take measures to prevent illness from attacking. With more medical knowlege, people can also learn about what's happening inside of their body and will be health conscious and take into consideration to eat morderately.
Then the bane, with medical knowledge, people will try to create more medical products with the name of improving health but nowadays, many medicine contains products that could do more harm than good. If one consumes this without knowing anything, disorders and side effects will occur and do harm to them.
4. Qualities that you look for in a friend.
A friend is one that can I can share all of my laughter and tears with. Someone who understands me and make me feel like one of their family. A friend must be one that puts himself in my shoe in difficult times and would always care for me, letting me to learn what's right and wrong. A friend isn't going to just walk away from you when you were in times of need. He must be one that could actually stay by your side when you're lonely, make you laugh and to believe in me no matter what happens, but mostly, a friend must make me feel that I have a place in their hearts.
Tears and laughter are to be shared with someone, I just can't imagine sharing laughters and tears without anyone by my side. A friend would understand me and know what I need and would always try to understand how I feel before saying anything. A friend would always be one that would always back me up, catch me when I fall, in order to let me take the risk and try, to learn new things that could actually benefit me. Friends always sticks to one another, sharing most of the life's ups and downs.
3. Women in society. What are there roles in these?
In the past, women's job is just to be a housewife who does everything her husband says, feeding their children, cleaning the house and maintain it well but now, a lot had changed! (I can't say all of it has changed since some still remain the same) Now, women had equal rights as men and had every right in their say. They had the same good education and job opportunity. This will also mean having much more innovation from both sexes! Though it was said that different people have different ideas but to say it in another way, if the world still revolves around men going out to work and women staying at home, then wouldn't most of the innovation comes from men? I mean, men and women had different ideas about different things and the way we handle them are different too.
Now, there's even a rise in female politicians. With female politicians, the government could actually set out benefits and laws that actually do women good, this way, everybody can be treated equally. Women have the right to do what they want though till now, there are still men who were rather not used to having a woman who holds a higher status than he is at work, but some had to admit that having a female boss could actually mean better ideas and ways to do things. Women also have the abiltiy to keep everything in place and order and was said by lots of people, women possess higher endurance and being emotionally stronger that other men.
Women who enters society had helped many and the 21st century a lot. This would also mean that women could contribute more for their country without any restrictions.
2. It is foolish to look for excitement in dangerous activities. Do you agree?
Yes, I agree that it is foolish to look for excitement in dangerous activities. Some of these activities that are dangerous are rock-climbing, bungee jumping and even worse, as what I've seen on television, the 'hook-up wedding'.
Rock-climbing and bungee jumping are some form of sports that people do to seek excitement, especially bungee jumping. People who tried bungee jumping went for the excitement but you should have seen what it looks like when the people who jumped were left hanging in mid-air, swaying back and forth. They will have blood gushing towards his head and cause concussion or even worse, when they were jumping, there will be a rope that holds them back and the tug of the rope on them was so strong that I thought that it can instantly break their fragile neck!
The 'hook-up' wedding is one that really scares me and creeps me out. It is about a couple going to be marries that hooks pierced into their body and to be hooked up in mid air to say their oath. Ok, it's like any other weddings when they had their vows in the church etc but this one is an exception which the married couple will have to hung themselves in mid air with their body pierced. Imagine how their skin is being pulled up when their body weight was pulled down due to earth's gravity!
Thus, I think it is really foolish to find excitement in such dangerous activities. People could find excitement else where, where nobody will ger hurt rather than to try those dangerous stunts.
1. It is better to be safe and not take risks. How far is this true?
It is true to be safe and not take any risks. It is better to be safe than sorry. Why risk so much and to end up harming oneself? Let's take gambling for example, when one feels that he's lucky today and takes the risk of gambling more, and in the end, he lost, all he is going to left with is only a pile of debts, but if he had not taken the risk in the first place, he would not have lost and would have ended up bring home some money and no debts.
Another example is commiting a crime, if one wants to take the risk of commiting a crime purely for fun or had no choice, what lies in front of him will only be jail and a lifetime of bad record. It will not only affect his career but also other people's opinion of him.
That's why is is safer not to take any risk. If one doesn't take risks, he would not have lost anything but if he does, he'll lose more than what he thinks.
Chinese New Year Celebrations heh heh~
I'm spending 5 holidays for chinese new year.
1st day, the school celebrated chinese new year and when I reached home, I'd had reunion 'lunch' and then at night, my family and I went to this restaurant for reunion. Together with my uncles and aunties, of course there's the main dish 'yu sheng' and then the red wine. Boy, my cousin drank 5 glasses non-stop! I did only drink about 2? Never mind that. After reaching home, it's about eleven plus, I think? No time for revision and went straight to bed.
2nd day, it's time to get busy. Didn't go out for my relatives were all coming over. I was so busy serving them that my revision got interrupted. I've to serve them drinks and chinese new year snacks which there was still lots of unopened ones. After that, another reunion dinner so again, my family and relatives were at another hotel again, eating yu sheng again and drinking wine again. This time, I drank only a glass. Sad thing, I've not played at mah jiong during the chinese new year, too busy perhaps? Then, we went straight to my second aunt's house, for another few glasses of vodka and brandy (I'm going to get so fat and so drunk). There, my cousins and I were admiring the stars and talked about academics and relationships and it was so awkward. It all ended well though, perhaps we could play mah jiong sometime?
3rd day, I went over to my maternal parent's side for new year. We had steamboat and wine again...haha I know it's not good for health but for sure that there's none left to drink already. Not much to talk about for the 3rd day but it's nice, since I like steamboat and I ate lots over there. While eating, we watched king kong, it was so intense that we almost forgot to eat until my grandmother 'called' us back.
Finally the fourth and the fifth day, nothing much though. Just thank god that I could do revision full time! Revising through the subjects, resting at the same time. That's how I spent my CNY holidays!
Targets, goals and resolutions for Year 2008
Speaking of 2008, my Secondary 4 life, of course my target is to...PAST MY O LEVELS!!! At least an A2-B3 for english, an C5 for both maths, B4 for sciences, B3 for humanities and B3 for POA., sorry, that's what I dreamed for getting in my mid-years, what I should be aiming for for my 'O' should be smoething higher, that's what all teachers tells us. I've been struggling through revision and homework together which sometimes led to my lack of sleep. It may be really though but for my dream of becoming a psychologist, I think it's worth while. Though my father told me that there should always be time for work and fun, and not just only work. Yeah, I agreed but I can't find anytime for fun as work filled up most of my time. My tuition too, has seen the changes in me, asking me why do I look so tired whenever I attend her lessons. I told her about school, homework and everything, and she replied, too much isn't it? Besides, that I aimed to read more books than I've dd last year, regardless of novels or japanese manga, chinese or english, as long as I can read, I'm fine. May god bless me and I hoped to get more creations and ideas from that crazy brain of mine to produce more works (stories). I've been writing stories since Secondary 1! Besides that, I also wished to streagthen ties between my friends and those friends from my primary school. We'll always stick till the end. Not to forget family ties. My goals is to fill my room and cupboard with books and cpmputer games. I'm a modern geek, aye? Modern geek, as said by my friends, is a person who reads when they were bored or when they wanted to...and they not just read, but a lot! I'm not embarassed at all but instead, accepted it gracefully. I mean, I really think I'm something like that. In the end...SAVE UP MONEY FOR THE SINGAPORE'S FERRIS WHEEL AND HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE!
How I spent my holidays
My house was on renovation during the holidays and therefore, I had to spend my holidays running around. From my grandmother's house to my anut's house, since my parents won;t let me go home due to the dust and dirt every single day after the renovation. Due to that, I hardly revise a lot druing holidays but I still did. Besides, all of us have English Research to do and sometimes Iwould go out with my friends to catch a movie. shop around after finding the research from various library. There was even once that I can't go to my grandmother's house nor my aunt's house and worst still, my friends aren;t free to go out with me! Thus, I had to spend my whole day in the library but I'm ok with it, since plenty of book's to read. Though I find it annoying when my parents or my friends called me, reminding me not to get too engrossed in the book too much, had to rest my eyes with every hour of reading and not to forget to eat my lunch. Oh yes, there's even once that I've not been eating for two or three days but just some water and surprisingly, I didn't feel hungry at all. Spending my days at my grandmother's house and aunt's house were fun since I could make salad and bake cookies and could even surf the net for long periods. Then again, I've went to look at Singapore's soon-to-be-openferris wheel and wow, it's huge! I love ferris wheel and it's in white! Big,tall, ferris wheel, I've actually started saving up for a ride of it. Ferris wheel, wait for me!
